My wife and I are hoping to move to B.C. but there is a lack of part-time/full-time jobs. I see a whole lot of casual jobs, does anybody have any experience working casual in B.C.? This might not be a question that is can be answered but what are they hours like typically? Looking in mental health in Kelowna or Kamloops mostly.
Thanks!

Hi I work casual in Vancouver....the amount of hours you get varies from hospital to hospital, unit to unit. For the first few months I didn't get called a lot but after you build seniority you can get prebooked, blocks of shifts (usually). I could get a line if I applied now, there are nurses newer than me that have them, but I like the flexibility of being a casual
Thanks! This is helpful to know.

Hi sunship88! How long have you worked in Vancouver? I got my RN registration in BC about 8 months ago, but I am still struggling finding a job. Did you also have the same concern too?
Hi, I've worked in Vancouver since June 2013. I got my job because I was an ESN. I know it took some of my classmates a few months to find work but eventually everyone I talked to found a position (mostly casual)
Does it help showing up to the unit managers? I've applied to a lot of positions online and I've heard nothing from any of them.
