Banana bag krider

Published

May sound like a dumb question but I have always wondered can you piggyback a krider onto a banana bag. Many years ago I remember seeing this practice but since I was a new nurse didn't think anything of it and have not seen this practice since.

Banana bag?

I think you *could*, but I never run K by itself into a peripheral IV. So, if you're talking about a setup where the patient receives either the Banana bag *or* potassium during the infusion, I'd set up a separate medication line. If you mean connecting 2 lines at a Y-port so they infuse simultaneously, I don't see why not. Our pharmacy (after Lexicomp) is my go-to for IV compatibility questions. They could tell you whether *their* banana bags are compatible with K.
