balancing school, family and work

Published

I am a 30-year-old career changer. I have been a graphic designer/art director for 10 years and I've recently decided to change careers to nursing. I started my prereqs two weeks ago at a community college. I previoulsy earned a BS degree from Penn State in Graphic Design and Photograpphy so I am interested in an accelerated program, but an associates program is also an option due to cost and the possibility of working simultaneously. I have a 17 month old and a baby due in March 2010. I am married, but I am the one who carries the health insurance for my family, as my husband works for the family business. I can conceivably juggle the load throughout this year during my prereqs, but I am worried about nursing school. Is is possible to have it all? I know something wll suffer, but is it worth it? Has anyone tried working freelance through nursing school and paying for outside health insurance? I would very much appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks so much

You could always look for somewhere that has a weekend program availble. My school has one. Although it would be difficult to spend time with family, you could work during the week and have school during the weekend.

Hi- I know our school offers helath insurance for the whole family if you desire it. Check into the schools and see if that is an option as well. Kelli
