B.A in Non-nursing field. UCLA MECN & MSMC ABSN.

Published

Hey Everyone! This website has tons of great info! I am now hoping you guys can help me out. I graduated from UCLA with a B.A in Sociology in 2012. I thought I wanted to pursue a career in higher education advocation but I am realizing the stability is not where I would like it to be and I would much rather be hands on helping individuals versus behind a desk. I worked in an outpatient Kidney Transplant Clinic for a year and a half doing administrative work and I loved interacting with patients and being able to witness their improvement. In that position, I was also able to see the various roles RN's play in patient care. I've reached out to individuals in the Nursing field and they all recommend it for various reasons. So I'm still trying to determine if it's definitely the route to go on for me. If it is, I've looked into MECN Programs and ABSN programs as well. For the meantime, I have a few questions for all of you.

- For those of you who received a degree in a non-nursing field and are pursing/already pursued a second degree in nursing, did you seek employment in the medical field prior to applying? Did that lead to your decision making?

- Any personal experiences from students who pursued the UCLA MECN program? How intense is the program?

- Any personal experiences from students who pursued the Mount St. Mary's College ABSN program? How intense is the program?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
