I graduated this program in December 22 and passed my NCLEX the first time. The program had some kinks as a newer program, but has gotten a lot better. The first cohort to graduate had a 100% pass rate. The second cohort is doing well as well. What will happen with the new NCLEX exam...who knows how that will impact pass rates, but right now I felt the program helped me achieve my goal of becoming a nurse and was worth the time and money investment.
As a student here, I agree with all the others. The program leaves a LOT to be desired. It's a money grab and while the person who mentioned the high NCLEX pass rate is right, they didn't mention that student graduation is VERY low. One cohort lost 50% of their class. The school will kick you out for pretty much anything. When something should be a learning opportunity, it's really an opportunity for them to kick you out, make you reapply, and then take the double tuition payment. The clinicals are not specialized and where you live isn't taken into consideration. There are students living in Norfolk driving to Newport News and students in Newport News driving to Norfolk. It's unsafe and they do not care. The quality of education and clinicals is also very low. Sentara has a contract with Old Dominion and they get all the pediatric rotations. One cohort at Averett actually did their pediatrics rotation in an afterschool program. Babysitting and watching kids after school. No nursing skills. No consideration from staff. Students are treated poorly and aren't considered. Staff will constatnly remind you that it's "only 16 months" like that means you don't need to be treated with consideration or respect. They will remind you often that they had it worse and that it took them longer and that it's a "rite of passage" to be stressed, unhappy, and treated poorly. Please do yourself a favor and do not do it. Avoid at all costs and find somewhere that will provide you a quality education and actually treat you with dignity and respect.

Hello all!
Is anyone currently a student in Averett’s ABSN program in Norfolk,VA? I am debating on starting this program soon and have a few questions/concerns about the program. Is it a good program and are you glad you chose that program? Do you feel like you are actually retaining the knowledge with the pace of the program? Are the clinical sites good?
Thank you in advance!
