Austin Moms/Nursing students I need your help!!

Published

I have been plugging away at pre-requisites for a year and a half now and due to soaring gas prices have decided to make the move to Austin by August 1st. I am married with two wonderful daughters ages 3 and 8. I would love to get some info on good elementary schools/ daycare facilities in the area. We are looking primarily in the north side of town but any info would be great. Also if anyone knows of any health care jobs I would appreciate the leads. I am not certified nor do I have healthcare experience but would love to get into the field sooner than later. For the past 8 years I have worked as an administrative asst. One other thing - how does everyone coincide their schedule with their children's (dropping off and picking up from school)?

Anyone........

You could try posting in the regional Texas forum. You might get a better response in there. Hope you get the info you need!

Already done but thanks anyway. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't forgotten;)

Hi,

I'm in Austin, but I'm on the far southwest side of town, so I can't give you any leads on good schools. I also work from home full-time and have no work experience in health care, so I can't help you out on the job leads. Also, cause I work from home, I'm here when my daughter goes to and comes home from school. She's 10, and I'm now able to leave her for a half hour or so to go to class early. She can also let herself in if I'm in class when school gets out. She walks to and from school, so this works.

I'm not sure what we'll do when she's in middle school. I'm hoping to arrange some carpooling, so she won't have to ride the bus.

Good luck! We're dealing with soaring gas prices here, too. I was driving home from class last night at 10 p.m., and I passed up five people on bikes with packs on their backs, like they'd been to the grocery store. Gas prices are really making an impact on many people I know. Even my husband is now driving my Toyota instead of his pick-up to work in north Austin. The prices forced him to turn in his man card. :D
