Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I am here tonight wondering what decision I will make. I have a chance to work at a long term critical care location as an LPN becomes I have my ACLS, but I was looking for part time work as I wish to finish getting my RN. I also have an offer to work from home online as an LPN but figure it will let my skills go to waste even though i will have the time to finish my RN. There is no dought that this is a once in a career time choice. The hands on experience is just what i need to do ICU In the future as a RN. The other thing is the hard reality that it is a 30 mile one way trip for the job and working from home is a cheap commute:) any ideas would be appreciated. I really want my RN and not sure if it will hurt or help with that either. Probably Shoul have wrote this earlier before studding :)

No one can really make this decision but you. But here's a few things to think about: if RN is your ultimately goal, be careful not to let anything stand in your way or even impede your chances of success. You will still be practicing your skills in the RN program on a fairly regular basis. On the other hand, in the LTC you will lots of experience passing meds and doing blood sugars and charting.

Personally, I opted to do an externship this summer as opposed to working as an LPN like some of my classmates. My ultimate goal is to be an RN and this externship is allowing me to learn from an RN point of view as opposed to an LPN point of view. Hopefully giving me a leg up next year for the RN portion of my education.

Do what you feel will enhance your next step to becoming an RN, afterall, that is your ultimate goal. Good Luck to you!!!
