When setting up the pressure bag and transducer for an arterial line and/or cvp reading, is it permissable to use yellow caps as well as blue caps to replace the vented ones ..... aren't the yellow AND the blue BOTH unvented??
Believe it or not, it came up tonight... thanks!

That sounds like a unit policy issue. We use white non-vented ports on all lines because that's what we stock. We change them each time they are accessed. Some sets come with colored non-vented caps to match a-line, pap and cvp colors. We use them the first time when priming, then they get tossed.

Ours are always blue...
We have blue and white in the transducer packs; the manufacturer says they only pack white and blue; however, for replacement we have yellow(non-vented) and/or blue(also non-vented)...I asked on this website because I hoped to settle the CATFIGHT between 2 nurses who were helping me settle in a new post-op patient.
They literally had a screaming match over the patient....disgusting closed-minded twits!!!!
Don't ya just love it?

The color of the dead-ender cap is obviously much more important than patient care. Bravo for having their priorities in order.
