Hello,

I'm seriously contemplating joining the ANC and completing LTC this summer. However, as silly as it may sound, I am having some reservations and fears about LTC.

I am 36 years old and in excelling physical condition, but am very nervous about attending LTC this summer. I think what I am most nervous about is the physical training (ie: rapelling up and down walls, continuous running/marching, etc). Is LTC similar to "boot camp"? Will I be the oldest cadet there?

If anyone can offer some insight on this, I would appreciate it.

Hi Gen!

LTC stands for Leader's Training Course, and is through the Army ROTC program. You normally attend this training the summer before your junior year of college....

Hi Diane,

I attended nursing school on a 4 year Army ROTC scholarship and served 9 years in the Army Nurse Corps. I have not been to basic training (boot camp) but as I understand it, LTC or other cadet training is not as rigorous as some aspects of basic training though it will challenge your mind, body and spirit and better prepare you for service as an Army officer.

You very well may be the oldest cadet there. You will also be the wisest and most mature cadet there. Look at your age as an asset, not a liability. If you are physically fit, you will be able to hang in there with the younger cadets. Good luck.
