Areas within an hour or Rio Grande Regional? :(

Hey All!

I am a recent grad up in Michigan, and I decided to stand strong on getting into my dream field of nursing (PICU/NICU), Rio Grande Regional has contacted me, and yes, I have read all the horrific things .

My question is

Is there anywhere within an hour of the hospital that is "a better area" the crime stuff is really scaring me, I hate to admit being afraid of the border, but after reading about all the shootings and violence I cant help it..... I want the experience so badly, so that I could go anywhere after ive served a year or two. I'm willing to try learning spanish, the idea actually really interests me...but I am afraid of being totally isolated also by a huge language barrier when I am off the job as well...Any advice?.. Im going to fly down to shadow before I would ever commit to the position...
