Long story short, I have a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field and want to ultimately become a FNP. I'm looking to get into direct-entry MSN programs, but not all of these programs offer specialties- meaning, I would be walking out of the program with a fancy MSN that is not worth any more than a BSN since I won't have any RN experience in my hand AND I won't have a specialty. That is why I'm hoping to get into programs like Vanderbilt where they offer you both an MSN + specialty of your choice so you would actually walk out of the program as an NP. However, there are not many of these programs available and ultimately I may have to just attend an MSN program with no specialty and become a FNP through a post-master's certificate program. I'm not really familiar with the idea of these certificate programs, and I was wondering if these post-master's certicate programs are competitive; as in, if they only accept students who had high GPA's during their MSN program. Thanks!
