Applying nursing principles to veterinary medicine (mental health)

Published

Hi all, I recently graduated as an RPN but have been unable to find a nursing job. In the meantime. I have continued to work as an ICU/ER Veterinary technician at a busy Veterinary Hospital in Toronto. We currently have a big problem with morale and employee happiness and mental health well-being. This is attributed to a toxic work environment and a general dissatisfaction with management. We are working hard to try and improve condition, such as employing a social worker (rare for a veterinary hospital) and introducing mentor-ship programs for new grads.

Have anybody had similar issues in their units? and what was done to better this situation? any suggestion?

I have considered the use of a quiet room, support systems, and the usual fare that you get taught in school. Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
