Applied for my dream job.. any advice?

Published

Specializes in Pediatrics.

I applied online to my dream job on 1/18, the very same day the position was posted on the facility's website. The next day, I also faxed a copy to the HR office in the hopes of a paper copy maybe having a better chance of being seen.

This past week, I also mailed a paper copy of my cover letter, resume, and letters of recommendation to the nurse manager of the unit, which was delivered yesterday.

The position remains up on the website, so it seems as though the application period is still open. Would it be too forward to call on Monday and check the status of my app?

I don't want to seem desperate, but this is literally my dream position! (It's pediatric rehab.) I have worked in an assisted living facility for the past year and 4 months. While I was a student, I did a summer long externship at an adult rehabilitation hospital and my senior preceptorship at a renowned children's hospital. Also, I have a BSN, and the position (which does not state "experience required") mentions "BSN preferred."

Any advice?

If I were you, I'd ease off. The more you push it, the more likely you are to "turn off" that department manager and have the opposite effect. I'd say at this point they know you're interested. Most places have jobs posted for a certain length of time, to give them time to make sure they get enough applications to consider vs just 1 or 2. I read in another section here that someone had been told (I think) that the more someone attempted to contact the manager regarding the position, the more likely that manager was not to hire the person. Granted, you don't want to wait forever. I would let it go for at least 1 more week before contacting them (week starting 2/6) about the status of the position, providing you haven't heard back anything this week. The fact that you did the on-line app, faxed resume & letters, then also mailed them, while showing determination, also may show desperation to them. Try to relax for a week, apply for other positions if there's something else you're interested in. Good luck. :-)
