APNA Conference

Ok, new nurse and interested in expanding my knowledge of psych nursing and am interested in the American Psychiatric Nurse's Association and the summer conference. If I am careful, I can swing the cost, however I am not sure that the material provided will be with the large amount of money involved in going there. Has anyone been to the conferences? Also, is the APNA cracked up to the membership fee? I mean, in the end, its a tax write off so I am not massively bothered by the cost. I just want to know if the benefits from it are worth the costs.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of resources out there for new psych nurses.

Sorry never been....I have been a nurse for almost 6 years and a psych nurse for almost 3 of those years. Never have had the money for something like that so since you do it can't hurt. I did work with an older male nurse in inpatient psych who went regularly and was an active member with the NY state nurses association. Its a lot of the politics I think and not so much if you just want to learn the meat and potatos stuff for everyday use. But maybe you will get a response from someone who has been.

Good luck and it you do go have fun!!!! ....and be sure to meets lots of peole and NETWORK!!!
