Anyway around this dilemma?

Published

Hello,

I was hired on the rehabilitation wing of a hospital on Nov 27th. I could not start training in Dec because they had too many people in training. So now I start on Jan 9th. As with my interview, I reminded the DON that I start school on the 15th, and have a 2 classes Monday and clinical Tues. She stated no problem. Made plans for the physical and finalize the paperwork. She called me back after 3 hrs and tells me that I must attend a hospital function on January 29th, 30th, and 31st. Thats Monday-Wednesday. Can you think of any options?

My thinking is to tell them I will be late and leave class early. Clinicals is another story. I really hate to use a sick day on the 3rd clinical day. Anyone have another option for me? This position leads into some really good opportunities once I become an RN, but school now is my priority.

Thank you

I would meet face to face with your DON or Department Manager. Let them know again that you it wouldn't be to your or their advantage to miss clinics. They should understand. Ask them if there is some way that they can help you make it work. I'm sure they'll understand if they hired you knowing you had school obligations.

I only missed one clinic day and that was because my FIL passed away. My school is getting very strict about missing clinic days.

I'll say a prayer for you. And hope it all works out.

Thank you.

It is a month away and something may come up. Or atleast I have a month to think about things.
