Hi All-
I'm planning to take Pathophysiology (online/distance learning/3 units) & Physiology (class lecture/5 units) this Fall semester. Is it doable?
Please advise. Thanks! :typing

I took Patho and Pharm online from Samuel Merrit. They were 10 week classes and a lot of work. I don't feel that I learned the material that well because we were so rushed. The tests were timed (2 minutes per questons) and open book. All questions came from a test bank. It was impossible to learn the material, and you just had to be organized and know how to find the answers quickly during the tests. Both classes had weekly case studies and we had to participate in discussion boards.
We had the first Patho test after 3 weeks that covered 1000 pages. The test was 25 test bank questions. It was impossible to try to study for that. I think Pharm was more work than Patho. There are so many drugs and alot of stuff to remember.
Good luck. Be prepared to work!

I took Patho in the semester after Physiology and based on my experience I think you would be much better served doing Physiology first. Simply, the understanding of Pathophysiology or the many possible dysfunctions of an organ/system is much easier when you have already mastered an understanding of the normal functions. Patho becomes much more ordered and logical when you are sitting down and comparing why a disorder manifests the way it does and what that causes systemically when you have a functional foundation to build on.
