I am starting the LVN program @ Sacramento City College in the Spring of 2015. Just wondering if there is anyone out there that is in the same boat as I am? I got tired of waiting for a RN program in Northern California and decided to go this route.

A Nurse Someday 7 Posts Dec 11, 2014 I applied once. I was an alternate for the Fall 2014 session, didn't get in. Thought I would apply again in the Spring of 2015, but I was an alternate for spring also without knowing that you can only apply once a year for the fall & spring pool. Someone dropped, so I got the spot. I got tired of waiting! I wish I would have applied sooner.

Dec 11, 2014 Once you're done with your LVN program, if you want to work as an RN at UCD, you should try to get a job there as an LVN. Sure it'll be a clinic job but if you're an employee already and you become an RN, (for now) you won't need a BSN to get a job as an RN there. You'll probably be required to get the BSN within a certain amount of time, but... a couple of my classmates did exactly that. I should also say that their VN program has some very good instructors. They're very knowledgeable and tough, but they want you to learn and succeed, but you have to do your part too.

A Nurse Someday 7 Posts Dec 19, 2014 Thanks for that info. I really appreciate it. I am a little nervous & hope that I am making the right decision. The waiting is just not for me, so I hope that I can get into the LVN to RN program pretty quickly. I am currently at Yuba College and its not a lottery system there, but it is still pretty hard to get into their program.
