Hi all,
I plan to start Summer 09. I have had a few people say to me NOT TO start during summer semester. However these people who told me this were in school at JS but did not start in Summer. That is the soonest that I can quit my job (I promised my husband 1 year) and I am a little afraid of not getting in Fall, since it seems is the time the MOST apply. So, those of yall who did it...what do you think! Was it worth it to get a head start?

I applied for summer 2007 and got accepted. I did not want to start in a summer semester, so I called and they held my place for the Fall term. I am 4th semester now, and looking back on it, that was the BEST thing to do. I would NEVER recommend starting in the summer to anyone! There are 3 nursing classes, labs with validations, plus 7 clinicals the first semester. Clinical paperwork is awful! The program is mostly self study and a lot of getting used to. In addition, if you start in a summer term you would have the 4th semester in the summer too, which I really wouldn't recommend since you would have 13 clinicals to do in less than 10 weeks on top of exams EVERY WEEK to study for, plus all of the clinical paperwork to do! No way! I know people have done it, but neither they nor I would ever recommend it. You could do what I did.... go ahead and apply, and if you get accepted have them hold your spot until the fall. I think waiting 10 weeks to begin in the fall would be well worth it!
Good luck in whatever you decide!
Question...If you are accepted any semester, will they hold your spot for the next if you cannot actually start them?
I am asking this because I kind of want to apply for spring just to see If I can get in....however I cannot actually start until summer of fall because of quitting work. But I do not want to take that spot away from someone who has maybe a few less points that me and CAN start that semester.
Thanks for your reply!!!!
They held my place for the next semester. I applied for the summer and got accepted, but I called and asked if they would hold my spot until the next semester (fall) since my kids were out of school for summer and I didn't have anyone to babysit them. They told me that would be no problem. BUT...... I had 200/200 points, so I would have been accepted no matter which semester I applied. I say this because I don't know if they will hold your spot if you have fewer points than the cutoff of the semester you want to hold off for. For instance, if your points are above the cutoff for summer but not for fall (because more people apply for fall admission), you may, unfortunately, have no choice but to start in the summer. I would call and ask.
Good luck!
