Anyone from Key West? I need help...

Well, my husband just made advancement this week. We found out that we are moving to Key West Florida, the Coast Guard base there.

Can anyone give me some suggestions to some sites regarding nursing schools, community colleges, daycare for my son and decent places to live?

We just transferred to Seattle 1 year ago and now they are moving us again. AHHHHH!!! I have had enough already but you go where they mililtary tells you to go.

We want to live somewhere that there is a reasonable distance between the base and community college. We have only 1 car so one of us will have to walk to work or school.

Try Florida Keys Community College - http://www.fkcc.edu. No idea what their program is like, but they have a Key West campus.

Good luck. You are managing to move even further than us - we did Bellingham to Fort Lauderdale 9 years ago.

oh my goodness...i am just worried about driving all that with a child in the car and going over that US 1 bridge for 122 miles...a little too scarey for me

We flew and then waited 10 days for the truck with all our stuff!

The Overseas Highway isn't scary at all. It is beautful. You sort of island hop, so only short bridges between. Apart from the Seven Mile bridge at Marathon - that can be a little scary if the wind is blowing.

Hope you don't mind a word of advice from a veteran of the last season. Make gettting your hurricane plans together a high priority. I am sure the Coast Guard has plenty of advice and family evacuation plans. Personally I much prefer knowing for 5 days what is going to hit me, rather than the possibility of an earthquake at any time.

Wow, if I were living in Seattlle and received transfer orders to Key West, I think I'd STILL be dancing around woohooing! Sundrenched islands, tiki hut bars, rum drinks served from a coconut... but I can see where having to uproot and make all new plans would be a pain. I grew up as an Army brat so I can sympathize with you there...
