Anyone Hear from Downstate?

Published

Wanted to see if anyone else has heard from SUNY-Downstate. I'll be attending starting this June. Anyone else?

Which SUNY downstate? SUNY New Paltz? SUNY Albany?

The name of the school is actually SUNY Downstate Medical Center. It's in Brooklyn.

Yes, I will be attending SUNY Downstate this coming up June. Have you heard any follow-up info from them or is it still early, for example: what we need to purchase, nursing kits, uniforms etc.

Lol, I can tell you that if things are still the way they used to be, then you'll be getting that info the night before your clinicals... Just preparing you. =) Not so long ago when I was there the school was a little to the last minute/unorganized side. Stick through it for 15 months and before you know it you'll be an RN!

I haven't heard anything since getting my acceptance letter. Thanks for the info PoohGirl - I had a feeling that it was last-minute like that. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

See you in June!

Who are you people and what magic did you conjure to get into this damn school?!

I am, clearly a very frustrated! - applicant still waiting to hear back ANYTHING from SUNY Downstate (even though I have been accepted into several other programs, including Columbia and SUNY Stonybrook) I thought I had a pretty damn good application (4.0 GPA, 8 years of health-education experience, including 4 in Peace Corps) and I turned my application in October 3rd (first day of opening) I just don't understand what they are looking for - can anyone shed some light?!!!

Have you called or written to them? Send then a registered letter with signed receipt requested, only by the person that you wrote it to. Ask them for a varification that they have, in fact, have your application. I would send a SSAE with it and ask when the deadline is for acceptance. Mention the time you sent it and your qualifications?

Hi Ibambamama,

There is no doubt in my mind that you did get accepted to Downstate. Your probably in their system as accepted and somehow they failed to reach you. It is typical of Downstate, you need to be agressive with them and call constantly.

good luck,

Eli Norman

Hey Ladies -

Thanks so much for the encouragement. I have, in fact, been in touch with Downstate constantly, either by phone or by email, almost every day for the past 3 weeks. I keep talking to the same woman in admissions, Deb Owens, who is very nice and polite, but never has an answer for me other than that 'they' have my application. (who these people are, I have no idea!)

I have to admit though, I'm feeling much better now. I can't believe I just discovered this whole website - it's been great! And, after reading through many many posts and corresponding with a few people, I have actually decided that I think it is actually going to be worth it to just bite the bullet and pay for Columbia. They have an excellent program, I'll already get to start working on my master's in the first year - AND, most importantly, they are very well organized, incredibly warm and accomodating; and they seem to actually want me at their school, whereas Downstate, well, whatever - it's their loss!

Good luck to you all - thanks again for the feedback, it really did help me regain my sanity!!!

Good Luck to you, Columbia is a great program. To all others going to Downstate, I just Kind've woke up and realized that I never sent

Downstate my FAFSA, do you think that is a big problem, im going to do it tonight but I just want to know if anyone else knows if funding will be limited for me at this point.

thanks

Eli Norman

Hi Eli,

I don't think it's too late to send them your FAFSA - I'm not sure that they have a ton of aid to begin with ;).

Also, there is an additional financial aid form to fill out on the Downstate website. It came with the acceptance materials.
