Hi All... I have seen one or two names on here that have been accepted to Pitt CRNA - I am starting there in Jan 09. I am tring to find some of our classmates so that we might get to know each other and share tips or suggestions. I am going there in a few weeks to check out the area so if anyone wants to join in the search or has helpful hints...please join in..
thanks

Well, shadyside and squirrel hill are your best options. I have lived in Pittsburgh for ten years now, had about 5 different apartments. Shadyside is generally more expensive. It's also more of a yuppy/snooty kind of atmosphere. If you stay in squirrel hill try and stay off the main drags (forbes and murray) a bit. Traffic on those streets can be a nightmare. The best thing about these neighborhoods is that there are tons of city buses that take you right to Presby. You won't even have to check a bus schedule they run so often. Best bet is to check the post gazette online classifides and the city paper classifides. Another suggestion is to get a place with either on site laundry or the ability to hook up laundry. Don't know about you but I hate laundry mats.

i was accepted to Pitt starting in Fall of 2008 & have done a little research r/t the living situation there. from what one student told me: it's best to check craig's list for apartment listings (you may discover a diamond in the rough). he rented from herbert halsband company:
271 Shady Ave
Pittsburgh, PA 15232

i've pretty much heard what you've heard: shadyside or squirrel hill are best bets and to avoid the oakland area. I've heard shadyside may be w/in biking (or busing) distance to all the major hospitals (Shadyside, West Penn, Presby, Childrens, Magee, VA, etc. hospitals.)

Hi all. I am also starting in Fall of 2008 -(CrnaHeisman). Another company to rent from is Walnut capital rentals- they have properties in Sq Hill and Shadyside. Those areas are very pedestrian friendly. Shadyside is def on the younger side but Sq Hill is more cultural with a very strong Jewish influence. You can't go wrong with either area.
