Anyone go to University of Florida

Published

Hey everyone,

I was just wondered if anyone has just recently gotten out of University of Florida or is there now? The reason that I want to know this is because Im almost 15 and my dream college is UF. I live in Georgia so my HOPE scholarship wouldnt be accepted. Also to make it easier on my parents I could move to Perry to live with my grandma (shes almost 75 and in great health except for some pain in her shoulder) that way I could live there for 6 months or however long it takes and that way I could then be considered a Florida resident that way when I do go to University of Florida it wont cost so much as an out of state student. Also Im an honor roll student and I was wondering how hard it is to get into UF? Also what kind of math classes will I have to take. Right now im in algebra 1 and im in 9th grade. Next year I will be in geometry. so forth. Also I have one more thing. If anyone has ever lived in a college dorm at UF are all of the murder stories true? Because I really dont want to be mudured.

Hey

I went to UF my freshmen year of college. I ended up leaving though and going to a different college. Don't get me wrong, it's a great college for upper classmen (junior/senior) but I found as a under classmen you have a disadvantage. For instance, class registering goes by seniority...so Seniors pick..juniors...then freshmen pick. Then freshmen pick by the order of their orientation. I had the last orientation, so I got screwed. They claim they reserve classes, but not enough for everyone. So I didn't get any class I wanted or any of my several backup classes. You kind of have to take what you can get as an undergrad. I was still trying to test out different majors to see what I liked best, so it didn't work out too well for me.

It's also a big time party school, and greek life is very big there. It was one of the top ten party schools according to princeton review when I went there... I'm not trying to talk you out of it, just telling you some stuff I wish I had known before I went there. Have you visited the campus yet? It's VERY big and a bit overcrowded.

As for how hard the classes are, it's like any other college. There are easy teachers, challenging teachers, and unfair ones. All depends who you get.

I had a lot of fun there though, lots and lots of things to do. Sometimes I think too much. Be prepared for large classes though. My freshmen year I didn't have a class smaller than 150 students. My chem class had around 350-400. I took college classes while in high school at a smaller college so I went from having my teachers know me really well, to just wishing my teacher knew I was in their class lol.

I think it depends on personal preference and what you're use to if you are going to like it there or not. Just keep your options open though.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Oh, yes I lived in a dorm, and boy do I have some stories lol.

Don't qoute me on this but I am pretty sure you need to live in Florida for 12 months before you can be considered for resdident status for school.
