Anyone Doing/Done Evening/Weekend Program?

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Hi all!

I'm considering two different programs for LVN/LPN (I'm in L.A. - so Mt St MAry's has an ADN program on eve/weekends as does American Career College). I actually originally was looking at AccBSN since I have a BA but there's no way I can ever see my children if I did that (if I even got in!) - so I started looking at the LPN route.

Any thoughts about it? I know that I would still see my little ones during the day (some of them are in school, others too young yet) but family time on the weekends with my hubby and children would be nil...though the programs are between 18 and 24 months, so not forever... The advantage, of course, is that my children would be either with hubby or me - not in day care, etc like they would have to be if I did a regular day program.

Just kind of rambling (sorry!) but would love to hear any experiences/advice!

Best,

Suz

I am in a night/weekend program. I work full time Mon-Fri. It's hard, I no longer have much time to just go out and have fun, and I do not see my family much. It's only temporary, I was in a 17 month program and I graduate in January. Almost there! Good luck to you~

Congratulations to you! I wish there were a 17 month program round here! Thanks for the encouragement:)

I am currently in a 20 month program and one year flewww by already goes by fast I dont have any children however if I did this is the best route in my opinion. Is it busy yes, but you still have time to do things in between here and there. I love being in the night program also because it allows you to absorb the material you learn rather than learn it one day test on it the next day and on to the next thing! So good luck :)

Thanks, Erica!

I guess I'm mostly worried that the workload outside of class will be so much that I'll spend the time I have with my kids stressing and freaking out, lol!

I love hearing form you all that are going through it. It's actually sounding...dare I say it? ...doable!

Yeahh it is def doable how do you think all the nurses today did it :).. I keep telling myself that because I mean at times I am just like I hope I make it through this stressful week but in the end if you give it your all and this is what you want then really you are all set thats how I have my mind set so far and so far so good fingers crossed I graduate next year ohhh I cannot even waittt!!! GOODLUCKK and you will do just fine!!! If it makes you feel any better I dont have children but I work 50 hours a week plus school..= DOABLE :)

I'm starting my LPN program in May and it will be full-time day classes and a 12 month program. I have two young children( 8 and 3) and I know it's going to be a hectic year but def doable :)

The part-time program here is 18months and you do 4 nights a week( from 4 to 8) and then 8hours on Sat. For me this wasn't the best option b/c I'd rather have nights and weekends with my kids. But, I do have a wonderful mother who will be keeping my kids during the day so that they don't have to do daycare. If not, I'd probably consider the part-time program myself...

I just wanted to let you know you're not alone and there are plenty of us moms out here going to school and raising kids:redbeathe I def think it's Doable if you put your mind to it and come up with a solid plan that works best for you and your family. Good luck, hope everything works out for you:redpinkhe
