I am desperate and cant get answers..was hoping maybe someone who went to jd could help shed some light. I have been accepted to jd in the spring. My sister, 11 years younger, was chosen as alternate #4. I am trying to find out if she has a chance. She has add and has worked soooo hard and I thought with 167 points she would get in. She did not. She never gets a break. MY heart breaks for her. ----- said she is 4th. I don't know what this means...anyone have alternates make it in your class? Is it safe to assume that they did include her points for attending jd for a semester...I didnt want to bug the director and ask them if they had the correct points by her name.

I am currently attending. Things are a bit chaotic there right now with the change in the director. ---- just recently became the director this semester. She was one of the BEST instructors the program had. She probably doesn't even know what will happen between now and orientation.
I can not answer the question about how she stands on getting in. To be honest you really have to wait and see. A lot can happen between now and orientation. People get admitted to other schools or decide they can not pay etc. Just make sure she is ready if called on. It doesn't hurt to make sure they have all the points accounted for. Your sister should know what they are if she did the testing and saw where you get points.
Best of luck.
thank u sooo much for responding...! She is ready and we are all praying. She never gets a break and I was hoping she would make it since she has worked so hard. She has 167 points so I will tell her to check with them on the points..just to make sure! Any advice before beginning? Were there any alternates in your class? Again, thank you for writing back!
I don't know about alternates, I never asked anyone that.
Tips:
Keep ALL your paperwork, even if you think it is meaninless. They will ask to see it later.
Semester 1: Fundamentals: get the study guide to the book!!! Hear me? Get the study guide to the book!!! This will make sense later
Pharmacology: ---- great teacher, learn your math!!! She doesn't cut any slack. A lot of people failed or struggled in her class
Assessment: ------- One of my favorite teachers EVER. She is a great instructor and an advocate for the students. Study what she tell you to study but also read the chapters. 1/2 the test is on her study guide 1/2 is in the reading.
Semester 2: Hold on tight, this one's a doozy! Both classes are hard! Peds: I stuggled but if you can get through the first half it gets easier.
Semester 3: Easy
semster 4: I'll let you know after my final comes back
thanks...as far as the math...if you have problems do they offer help? Any books besides the one you mentioned that is helpful? Any supplies I should go ahead and purchase? Any idea (after orientation) what the schedule is like for the 1st semester..I will be driving from downtown pensacola....thanks again!
Yes, ---- teaches the math in Pharm. She will help you a lot. She is a good teacher, just doesn't give any slack. They did away with the math exams at the begining of each semster so you don't have to worry about that. But in place of that they are requiered to have so many percentage of the test questions involve dosage calculations.
Saunders NCLEX review is a very helpful book. Some of the test questions are duplicates from the companion CD.
The schedule we had will probably be the same but I can't remember what it was. Seems so long ago. When you start classes find out who is from Pensacola and carpool. I have a carpool group and we study on the way and complain on the way home.
Enjoy your first semester. It isn't difficult if you study. The way you are starting though puts your second semester in the summer. It is tough to do both classes in the summer. A lot of people fail trying to do it that way. I think they are offering a split of the second semester where you take Adults 1 in the summer and OB and Adults 2 in the third semester. If you can do that I would suggest it. OB and Adults 1 in the summer kills a lot students.
Happy to answer any more questions, just fire away.
thanks! I read someone else saying the same thing about the summer...hope I can split it. Do you remember how many days u are in classs and how many days u do clinicals the first term? Do we have uniforms for class or just for the hospital? Any recommendations for shoes? Do you bring a lunch or do you get time to leave and eat between classes? Curious bc i read somewhere on here that this girl had a class that was 4 hours long??? lol Probably will be too tired to eat anyway. Did you buy a rolling bag? Do I need to be reviewing my old a&p over the holiday or do they review as they begin? Sorry for so many questions...just excited and nervous.
I understand your excitement.
You do NOT need a rolling backpack. I think they are so goofy. There is no need to bring every book you own to class. You have a regular size desk. I think people do it for a status symbol. I have people in my class that have luggage to bring every book to class and they have it blocking the walk ways. Why? No clue. We only use the text for that class and maybe the Davis drug guide. Everything is easy to manage with a standard school bag. Next semester depending on how your classes are set up might be a bit heavy. The Med Surg book is bulky and heavy, add that to the OB book and, well it might hurt your back but you only have to carry it a short distance.
As far as the schedule goes. You Will have fundamentals one day and then a lab that goes with it. I had mine set up with Fundamentals one day and the next was the lab with the other class. They have a microwave to use and a mini-fridge. There is also Arby's close by but that gets old.
Clinicals are only 2 days at a nursing home the first semester and the orientation that goes with it so 3 days is all. You will need a JDCC polo and khaki pants for clinical orientations (You have to buy them at the school) and scrubs for clinicals. Hold off on buying scrubs. Right now they are all white but that may change before you start so wait. They will let you know at orientation the first week. As far as class goes, you can wear what you want. Some people dress like they just left the beach, others dress professionally. It all depends on how you feel about that. I prefer to look professional because I take it seriously. No scrubs though.
Review your A&P. You will use it through the whole course so it is better to know that try to play catch up.
Did you or your sister call up to Mrs. Mack today? I was in her office around 11 and she got a call from someone asking about points and admission. One thing I heard her say was after this semester they are doing away with the COMPAS entrance and going with TEAS for placement. If she didn't get in this semester, she may want to get the study guide to help get a good score on that.
