Anyone applying to Mount Wachusett CC for Fall 08?

Hi! I'm a taking nursing pre-reqs at MWCC right now. I'm told by the faculty that they admit students on the basis of a point system, with science pre-reqs getting more weight. I'm also told they factor in any previous healthcare experience with points. Good luck with your app... I won't be ready to apply until next year, for 2009.

I've applied to MWCC for fall 2008. At the information session I attended about a month ago, they explained the "points" system. As the previous poster said, the sciences are weighed more heavily, and they do look at actual grades, adding up the points for each course completed (more points for a B than a C, and so on) to reach a total. This means that the more courses you have completed (not just the actual pre-reqs but both A&P courses, both English, both psych, etc.) the better. They also give weight to previous or current healthcare experience, which is bad news for me as I don't have any! I'm just hoping my grades make up for it. So much depends on the competition, of course, and I was told they usually get about 600+ applicants for about 120 places. I'm pretty sure a degree will earn you some points too, but I kind of tuned that bit out as I don't have one, sadly. Hopefully the combination of your grades and your experience will get you through, and we'll both end up in class together in September!
