Anyone apply to CCM for spring nursing program

Published

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone else has applied to the spring nursing program at County College of Morris? Does anyone know when we will find out if we got in? Would love to share my wait with someone who gets it!:nailbiting:

Hi

I'm just starting my pre reqs this spring at ccm but mayb you could be my future adviser on nursing school ?

Pleeeease

Hello, I would love to help any questions please ask! What classes are you taking this semester? Who are your professors?

I'm thinking of taking

Comp 1

A&p 1

Intro to chem

Intro to psychology

I haven't picked my professors yet bcoz I'm writing my placement test on Monday next week.

so it sounds like you are a full time student? not working? I will say this I did my prerequisites part time because I work full time. I had a lot of my prereqs done before coming to ccm I have my associates and most of my bachelors from an online school that transferred so I only had to do my sciences with CCM. Intro to psychology (I did online through CCM) over the winter break, I found it to be really easy. A&P I , was a lot of memorization its all about your body cells organs how they work, bones and muscles. You will have lab attached to your lecture. I took Dr. Widuta for both lecture and lab loved him he explained everything really well. Intro to chem I would advise you to also take the lab its not required but if your going to go on to your bsn you will need it in the future - take it while its all fresh. I also did chem on line and went in for the lab. I had professor Johansson for lecture it was HARD I am not a math person it was a TON of formulas. along with how cells and molecules work within your body on a molecular level so I had a really hard time wrapping my brain around it because I could not visualize it. Lab I had dr. Keating was not a fan she was a new teacher and had a hard time getting the material across and she was boring. chem lab should be fun! Getting into the nursing program you need to have a good GPA they accept you on a point system - so many points for A's, B'S and C's. There are more students then seats. Personally I would not take chem this semester i would take an elective. But if your really organized and do well in school and have a lot of time to study go for it. But keep this in mind points are taken off for repeating classes so if you do not do well it will hurt your chances of getting into the program. I really don't want to scare you I just want you to fully understand the work load. Did you talk to the advisor? What did she recommend? A&P II I had dr. Nuebig - he was great for lecture his class was easy you couldnt miss class because everything was from his notes but he gave you a really good idea of what would be on all tests. Lab I had Stephanie Benson - she was the best. Everything came from her power points she really knew her stuff. As good as Dr. Nuebig was I would have loved to have her for lecture. I am in Microbiology now my last prereq. I am accepted into the nursing program in the spring as long as I pass this class. Micro is tough. I am also doing this class online and lab on saturdays. I am taking Dr. Isaza class - It is the hardest class ever. We started with 17 students and are down to 12- You will learn the material with her but her tests are all critical thinking nothing is straight forward. Labs are fun but all of her lab test are only short answer questions. I hope this is a start for you to figure out what you can handle as far as the work load goes. Don't over do it. The sciences classes mean the most if you have time to spread the sciences out I would take easy classes over the summer and winter break if you want to finish sooner. but also give your mind a break over summer or winter break to get you through the other semesters. Let me know what you decide. I think registration starts Nov 3rd.

Holy lord you are amazing! Thank you so much. I already feel overwhelmed and I really want this. I'm 25 and married and I have a fulltime nanny job from noon to 6pm.

I immigrated to America 3 years ago. So now I can finally go to school.

I plan on talking to the advisor after my test. I haven't studied since high school so I really don't want overwhelm my brain.. I want to get a feel for things instead of over committing myself especially since u say there are more students than seats. I rather do less and guarantee myself As than do too much.

High school was so long ago but I did love chemistry and aced all my tests but I rather not risk it. Il look into what electives I can take in place of Chem.

Good luck with nursing school. If you have time to get coffee this spring Id love to talk more about this stuff. Especially since this is going to be my life for a few years... Xo

Kim

Hey Kim,

If your working full time then you definitely do not want to overwhelm yourself, especially the first semester. I completely understand the feeling of wanting to get it done quickly. Be fair to yourself as well as your husband, believe me they feel our stress of over committing ourselves. I am 39 years old working on my second career I took a step back in my studies to get my nursing license - I started going for health care administration - I have worked for an oral surgeon the last 19 years - I am his surgical manager and can go no further with him. However to get a really good job as healthcare management you not only need your masters in healthcare management you also have to have the nursing license. Hence why I am here. I plan to finish my RN with CCM and apply my bachelor credits to my BSN probably at Ramapo and then go on for my master in health care management. You still need to have a life on the weekends with your husband, friends, and family otherwise you will be miserable. The Nursing program will take away your life from what I understand for 2 years during the semesters. (I will let you know in the spring if that rumor is true) So live a little now. My advise to you is go easy the first semester like I said earlier take psychology, english and anatomy - you need time to study and have a little fun! If that was easy for you (everyone is different ) the following semester add another class. But overall make sure the sciences are your main priority!!! You seem determined that will carry you through! I would love to get coffee during the semester - I wish I had someone ahead of me to help me through some of the struggles. Husbands and friends are great but they don't always understand everything we commit and feel through this process. I also have some books I can lend you - for your science classes if you would like to help save on some of the costs. They are probably some of the older additions by now they come out with a new book every year but they are all the same. I also rented my micro book this year for the first time and it has worked really well and its cheap! Keep me posted. I am here anytime you need someone! I was a peer leader for my online school Colorado Technical University for new students - it helps to share experiences - everyones path is different but it helps to know someone else's journey to help create your path. Where are you from?

Kelly

Thank you. If you don't mind if love to borrow the books and if I need the newer versions then il get them.

I'm from South Africa. So the entire school system here is so new and confusing. Yes I think it's best I start with 3 classes. My full time job is pretty layed back but it's still work and I really need the money.

Here email me and we can figure out when we can meet up. [email protected]

I don't really go out. I'm more of a home body and it's just my husbands family here.. All my family is in South Africa. Are you from Jersey?

I bought the anatomy 1 coloring book from the bookstore and I'm busy reading that... Hope it preps me just a little.

Hi. I'm from the Philippines and I already have a Bachelor's degree. I will be migrating to NJ in two years. I am planning to start my nursing classes here while waiting for our papers. Will my courses be credited if I'll continue nursing at CCM? Thank you.
