Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone was able to get into SMU or CSU east bay, or any other pre nursing program around bay area. I didn't realize how competitive the field was, and I struggled to maintain my class grades due to overload. I got a C in chemistry, Pass in biochem, B in anatomy, and I think im going to end up with a B in physio and micro. I didn't know I wasnt allowed to retake any classes until after the drop date. Was anyone able to get in without any As in their science pre reqs? what should I do?

Hello epididymis,

Navigating the competitive field of nursing programs can be challenging, especially when it comes to meeting prerequisite requirements. It is great that you're reaching out to the AllNurses community!

Although I don't have advice on SMU or East Bay, I do have some general advice:

Contact the Programs Directly:

  • Reach out to the nursing programs you're interested in. Ask about their specific admission criteria and whether they consider individual course grades or overall GPA.
  • Some programs may allow you to retake specific courses to improve your grades, even if you can't retake all of them.

Highlight Strengths:

  • Emphasize other aspects of your application. Do you have relevant healthcare experience, volunteer work, or strong letters of recommendation?
  • Some programs value well-rounded applicants who demonstrate commitment and passion for nursing.

Prepare for the TEAS Exam:

  • Many nursing programs require the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS). Focus on studying for this exam to maximize your chances of success.

Seek advice from academic advisors or nursing faculty—they can provide personalized guidance based on your situation.

Remember that each program has its unique requirements, so research thoroughly and tailor your approach accordingly. Best of luck on your nursing journey!
