Hello. I just completed my NCLEX, and am looking for a new grad nursing position. I am concerned about finding my first job and was hoping for some tips. Just a little about myself. I am on my second career and 51 years old. I have no professional experience in nursing, but graduated with a GPA of 3.46 in ADN program, received a couple of scholarships, and volunteered in hospitals, and other health activities so was a recipient of the Presidential Service Award for service to my community. I am licensed in Florida, and working on being licensed in Texas. I understand that some nursing students have been looking for a year for a job, so I am a bit concerned about that since I am low of funds.

I would contact any connections you have from your volunteering in the hospital & health activities. Obviously you cannot be hired if there isn't a position open, but often positions are listed "internally" first (but could still be applied for from external applicants). If nursing jobs are scarce in your area, the first priority is not being picky so you can start working & then be able to say you have experience. Nursing homes seem to always have a need. Ask a nursing instructor you were close with if she has any personal connections or tips on job openings. Your could also search your county's health department, etc. Brainstorm anywhere a nurse would be working and go to that place's personal website and check for openings, or even call! You WILL find a job, but it may take some patience, flexibility and creativity until specialties you want to work in open up. Good luck!!!!
