I am considering the AF opportunity once I complete my course of study next year. If there are any FNP's already enlisted or who may have been at one time any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I guess my number one concern is location and deployment. Knowing this is part of the package what experiences do you have with being stationed at a location of preference and how frequent have deployments been? Thanks..

Specializes in ICU, ER, OR, FNP.

you really need to talk to a recruiter. that's the only way you'll have a clue what bases will need fnp. naturally, ad troops have a great deal of insight to assignments that civilians do not, therefore - the healthcare accessions recruiter in your area will be your resource for all of that info.

deployments. sorry, but as a fnp you can work up and get consults for every chief complaint a troop might have in iraq or afghanistan. the last time i was in iraq, i was still in the or and we took referrals from all over the theatre for renal calculi, testicular torsion, aaa (yes - i did an elective aaa there - don't worry, it wasn't an american), appendicitis, etc.. all of those patients went to the clinic with a boob boo somewhere and got referrals to us.
