Hi, I am a recent BSN grad in northern NJ. Do you know of any hospital around here that would take new grads in thier ICU? I have looked around and many do not take new grads starting out in the ICU. Any help would be appreciated....Thank you. I would be willing to work in the city as well (NYC).

Many hospitals will hire into their ICU new grads who previously worked or "externed" in their unit.

So are you saying that in our last year for nursing school we should do internships/externships in hospitals in the unit we would like to work in before we graduate, giving ourselves a better chance of getting a position there? But does hospitals hire externships, is that possible? I would definitely consider it if that's good, because I used to work as a CNA in an MICU unit for about six months, then moved to the PACU...would CNA experience be considered as well as externship? Sorry for asking so many questions.
All of the above gives you an advantage over a brand new grad w/ absolutely no experience in healthcare. Make it known to the unit you'd like to work in that you'd like to start your career there and ask questions about how you can achieve that. In other words, show interest during your pre-nursing experience. Good luck!
