Any LIU BSN graduates? Incoming 2021 transfer student here

Published

I start Fall 2021 and LIU does not have a good administration. Can anyone tell me how the educations itself is?

I work with NYU accelerated nurses and they constantly recommend going to a cheaper school like LIU since you teach yourself there as well.
I would like to hear more about others experiences as graduates or current students.

Hi! I’m a current student, and I just want to say, especially during this pandemic, please take your tuition money elsewhere. I went back and forth with my decision due to the other bad reviews, and ultimately stuck myself with going to LIU and kind of regret it, so now I’m just sucking it up to go by in getting the degree ??‍♀️. They’re understaffed so they have some professors teaching multiple subjects which leaves them to have you basically DIY your nursing education via Youtube or reading a bunch of textbook chapters. Also the professor to student ratio is not what they claim it to be, so professors aren’t very helpful via email or zoom office hours. There are much cheaper nursing programs throughout NY with better quality. I would suggest to do a more thorough research on that. On top of tuition, they expect you to pay extra hundreds of dollars for textbooks, uniforms/equipment, and softwares to “supplement” your learning. Hope this helps! Best of luck!!

I want a nursing degree but I don’t want to risk the chance of failing and never be allowed into another nursing program.

How is studying and the work load for you? is it manageable I’ll be working 40hr weeks on top of that so it’s all very scary!

I know a lot of my peers and friends in the program who work and have a family on top of school, and most did not do as well as they wanted to or failed a course. Most programs have a grade threshold before you fall into academic probation or worse, get kicked out the program. This isn't to say that someone won't be accepted back in or to another. The nursing program academic committee would review the appeal as to why one got kicked out. LIU Nursing, for example, has a policy where you need to score at least 77% average on all quizzes/exams and 77% overall in the course. My first semester was a lot of exams or quizzes back to back and some courses required more studying than others depending on the subject. I would spend at least 20-25 hours just being in lecture (and luckily this would be online cause of COVID, so minus the needed commute to campus), then there's maybe at least total of 40-50 hours studying a week or doing assignments. Units range from at least 12 to 16 a semester. If you fail lab, then you also fail the lecture and only get one course retake. It all comes down to your time management. I would say it is doable; nursing programs are a whole dedication that you would need to truly commit to without distractions though.

Thanks!

How was is signing up for classes I still havent heard anything back about signing up for the fall semster. Did you register yet? Are you also in the traditional program? How do you study?

hello, I am also attending LIU this fall. I was hoping to connect with others so we can figure out what to do. let me know if you’re still attending!

Decided not to go to LIU! To unorganized with my 40 hour work week !

Specializes in Clinic/Cardiology/ Internal Medicine.

I will be attending LIU post in the fall 21

Decided to go a different route. All the best of luck! As long as you don’t have a full time job it should be more than manageable ?

according to my friends that go there. Just a bunch of studying
