Hello, I am new to this website. I am a new grad that graduated last year. I am applying to the new grad residency program at The University of Kansas Health System. My problem is, the positions they have available is limited for ADNs, which I have. The positions they have available are not of my interests, but this hospital is my dream job. I've done clinicals here and they are awesome. I've also heard from word of mouth from nurses and assistants (even the police officers) that this is a really great hospital and everyone is a team, almost like family.
I am just wondering if anyone knows what questions KU has asked you? Sorry that this sounds directed towards KU, but I am also really curious to what questions recruiters typically ask new graduates in general. I have no medical experience prior to nursing school. So I feel like others will have a better advantage at getting hired than me ?
I've also been having anxiety which is causing me to hesitate putting applications in, and fearing interviews. I just fear messing up and looking stupid. Idk what to do. It's bothering me a lot.
Another thing .. how do I put a cover letter together if I have no medical experience other than nursing school? KU told us (and I know a lot of hospitals in general) to make sure in your cover letter, state why you want the position you're interested in. Again, the positions available are nothing of my interests but I believe they will really help me master my skills 60mo-1year later. Is a cover letter necessary? For those that work at KU or have been in their residency program or is a recruiter there, would a new grad still have a chance at being hired if they are applying to a residency program with only a resume and no cover letter?
