Does anyone have any info on grants that would fund nursing school...or any companies that I could work for that would pay for my nursing education? Im taking generals at this point, which my job is paying for. Due to cutbacks I may me the one on the chopping block to be let go.

Hmm. Well, I work as an LPN at Health Partners and they'll reimburse you 2 grand per school year. But you still pay yourself, then send in the transcript to HR to prove you done good (C or better) and then they I believe cut you a check for the 2 grand.

Other than that, I think you have to look into the individual school, but I'm in the same boat as yourself. Looking for whatever financial aid I can get my hands on that is not loan based. I'm afraid I'm not eligible for much at this point.

thanks! healthpartners huh? the only problem is that i'm not an lpn yet but i am pursuing the career. how did you fund our lpn schooling? i am not in the position for a loan either. :heartbeat

thanks.

well, if your finances are very limited, you may qualify for federal pell grants. for example, thanks to a very good tax man, i was able to show minimal income on last years tax returns, and as a result, i qualified for 5,000 per academic year in grant money [you dont have to pay it back]. also, don't automatically assume you aren't in a position for a loan. i had to take out the remaining 16,000 in a combination of stafford [6.25%apr, no credit checks] and plus[8.5%apr] loans. this may sound like a lot, but the stafford loans aren't due until after graduation and both types of loans have a 10 year repayment term [though there is no prepayment penalty]. this puts the combined minumum payments for all loans at about $210/month. i doubt that will be an issue, once you get working as an lvn. so really, if you're unable to find a company to pay your way through, i would make an appointment and sit down and talk with the financial aide department of whatever school you want to attend. they may end up suprising you and coming up with a plan thats doable.

weelll, unfortunately i did have to go the way of loans for lpn. yeah... i don't think i got any grants. see i've done the college thing since 1998- i started at st. kates as a biology major intending to go pre med, and then i transferred to bethel, then school hopped a tad. i don't qualify for any grants through the state i guess.

may i ask where you're going for lpn?

Thanks! I am taking my generals at NHCC. Hopefully everything works out.

I found some grant and scholarship information on www.nursinglink.com. its a nice site

If you do have to take a loan (or have one), the federal gov has a loan forgiveness program.
