Any former State College of Florida/SCF/MCC/Manatee Community College students?

I'm looking to get information from past SCF/MCC nursing school students regarding what to expect when I start the RN program in January. Come that time, I will have no obligations to tend to expect for school (I set this up purposely so that full focus could be devoted to my education). Concerns mainly have to do with amount of reading that's required and other program expectations. I'm an excellent student across the boards but from what I've been reading on this site, nursing school is a whole different animal. I will be entering in January as an older student (late 30s) and don't feel like I have a clear understanding of what will be expected of me as far as work load, etc.

HI there!! Just wondering if you were ever able to get any info? You are a lot farther along than I am. I am at SCF now finishing up pre reqs hoping to apply for the Aug 2016 start......any info you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I have been hearing some things about people having super high GPAs and them not getting in, these are friends of friends stories so I do not know how accurate they are and no idea how their TEAS scores were....again any info you could help with would be great. I am early 30s not trying to waste anymore time!!!

Do you know for sure you're starting in the spring? I applied and I'm waiting for the October 23 email. Do you know something I don't? I'm dying with this wait! :)

Hi there. I'm pretty certain I'll be chosen. I was chosen last year but due to circumstances out of my hands, in part, I had to turn down my seat. Did you attend the information session in Venice a week or so ago? I was there. Which campus are you waiting to hear back from? The goal is to attend the Venice campus for me :)

Hi there. Thanks for your message. I learned at the Venice info. session a week or so ago that the likelihood of getting into the Venice based program is greater than getting into the Bradenton based program (supply/demand). GPA is taken into consideration but also taken into consideration is number of applicants. So, if you're applying to Bradenton and you're floating in a pool of 100 applicants, only 40 of you can be chosen so GPA will become a much greater factor in deciding if you'll be one of the chosen 40 or not. On the flip side, if you're applying to the Venice campus program (by the way, there is no Lakewood Ranch program that you start/finish at), if you're in a pool of 50 applicants, GPA won't be as big of a factor as it'd be if you were in a pool of 100 applicants.

I haven't been able to go to any of the info sessions. I work during those hours and my boss has no idea I'm hoping to quit soon to go to school. :) How disappointing that you had to turn it down last year!

I'm hoping for Venice. I just wish I had any idea where I might stand. My GPA is around 3.9 (although SCF Connect seems to be broken, so I can't remember for sure), my TEAS scores were: Reading - 85.7, Math - 97.6, English - 100, and I still need to take Microbiology, Psychology, and Human Development.

Would you mind telling me what you think, considering you got in last year? (I'm not asking you to share your info, just maybe if, based on your numbers, you think I might have a chance.)

I'm in my late 30s, so I really want to get started with my new career sooner rather than later. I'm biting my nails waiting for the email!

Oh, and I'm totally with you on wishing I knew what this was going to involve. No one seems able to explain what nursing school really involves. Even my friend who is in her last 13 weeks. She just keeps saying "critical thinking" and "studying." It must be the most mysterious program on Earth!

I'm not really too concerned with which campus if Venice was where I got accepted I would go there. I live super close to the bradenton campus though but I'm bit trying to waste anytime. I'm applying for all the schools within an hour or so drive. After this semester I'll onky need 2 classes to apply. I'll actually have all my pre reqs needed through the BSN, which I thought was setting myself up for a good thing but someone told me yesterday that the core classes are only 11 credits per semester soooo once I get in I'll be one credit shy of full time status so idk how that's gonna work. My GPA is like 3.2 right now but we'll see after this semester lol. I haven't taken the TEAS yet. Oh n I did go to an info session at the lakewood ranch location but they didn't really talk about GPAS. I think I'm just going to call the school AGAIN and talk to an advisor and see what my chances will look like.....I'm too old to be sitting around waiting for years to get in to program. Thanks for responding I rarely get anyone to answer on here.

Dang good job on the GPA and the teas!!! Seems like with those scores you would be set. Good luck to you both!!

Thanks! My husband thinks I'm crazy to worry. But, of course I'm terrified. SCF gives NO information on how many people they take and what their standards are.

Good luck to you!

This is the first recent thread I've found on SCF! I've been accepted to the Bradenton campus for spring - anyone else?

I am on the alternate list - #5. Sooooo 5 people need to decline!
