I am a current student at DNI and have seen it go through a lot of transitions. Is it perfect? No. Is any nursing school perfect? No. You get out of it what you put into it. I don't regret for one minute that I enrolled at DNI I have learned a lot from truly caring instructors and if you show them that you care they will do anything in their power to help you.
I highly, highly, highly suggest that you stay on top of the reading assignments you are given. You will be provided with a syllabus and you need to be prepared when you come to class with questions. Please don't make the mistake and think you can not read and still pass tests because you will only set yourself up for disappointment. If you are attending during the daytime the program is fast paced and it takes some getting used to in trying to balance your classes. It will feel overwhelming at first but you will get used to it just be sure that you don't neglect one class for another they are equally important.
Thankz FOR YOUR REPLY :) IM DOING,PT BECAUSE I WORK FT AND HAVE 4 KIDS. I HEARD THE FIRST SEMESTER IS A&P AND NURSING FUND. (CNA WORK) IS THAT TRUE? IM GLAD THERES A SYLLABUS SO I CAN TRY TO READ AHEAD. QUESTIONS? LIKE READ THE CHAPTER AND GATHER QUESTIONS? If YOU DONT MIND ME ASKING....WHAT SEMESTER ARE YOU IN? DO YOU ATTEND MORNING OR EVENING? I HEARD A LOT OF PEOPLE DROP OUT....THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUT INPUT
The first quarter is A&P and Fundamentals I would not say its just CNA stuff because we had CNA's in our class at first that did not pass so don't underestimate it all. You will also have a Skills class as well where the instructor will demonstrate a particular skill such as "Sterile Wound Care" and you will have to perform that skill in front of an instructor and pass the "Check off." The first quarter tends to be the great equalizer and serves to weed out people that really had no idea of what they are getting into. If you read the chapters and know your key terms and learning objectives that will help you greatly and you will learn critical thinking.
I hope that you have a good support system especially with 4 kids at home because your time is not going to be your own anymore and its going to be really hard to balance work, home, and school. I am not trying to be pessimistic at all I am just being real nursing school is hard and it will be difficult if not impossible to do everything you did prior to entering school because it requires a lot of time. I am in my last quarter of school attend fulltime during the day and quit my job to go to school.
O wow! Im a cna right now and werk with a lot of the graduates and students when they do clinicals at my job. Im nervous but yet anxious to start my support system is so so but i kno with the grace of god things will work out for me. Thank you for all yout inputs its really giving me a better understanding of this. Congratz on being in your last semester did you work while going to school or how did that work out? How much time do you think i will have to put into studying outside of school? Sorry so many questions i jus want to be well prepared
Once people see that you are serious about school they normally come around and step up to the plate and help. A lot of people have kids so don't feel like the Lone Ranger you are in good company:) I did not work at all but I do have people in my class who are CNA's and worked all the way through and it was hard but they made it work. I think its a lot harder to work and go to school fulltime versus parttime so I think you will be ok on that front. As far as I how many hours to study it really depends on you and how easily you retain the information. One other word of caution remember when you learn Skills that even if you do it a totally different way at work or even see it done differently by other nurses. You have to do it the way they teach at school because that is what you are graded on, and its hard to do because school is a "perfect world" and clinicals is totally different.
Please don't apologize for your questions. I am happy to answer them and you will do awesome and your time in school will fly believe me..enjoy it! Surrond yourself with positive people and you will be just fine!
Thank you.. you are so sweet.. and you can do it. I hope that maybe our paths will cross again. The world needs more dedicated nurses and I think you will be great one and God definitely had a hand in me responding to your post because I never post.. I lurk..but I know that its hard to know what to believe and what not to believe when it comes to school. You already know you can do it since you saw first hand that your Aunt did it as well. I am sure that is part of the reason you are coming to DNI. You sound very mature for your age and I admire you wanting to be an example to your kids and provide a better life for them.
ThANK YOU AND I HOPE WE MEET AGAIN :)

Hello! I am checking into nursing school at DNI as well. I was wondering if there are any Prereqs to enroll into the RN program?
