Hi everyone! I'm going to apply to the Accelerated BSN at NYU for spring 2008 and I need some advice on housing. I have a 10 year old son and money is extremely tight. I'm also concerned about his schooling, safe neighborhoods, etc...Could you recommend any affordable, clean, safe neighborhoods within an easy commute for me to NYU but also with good schools for my son? Maybe such a place does not exist....I have no idea. Does NYU have any sort of family housing? Even if they did, I don't know, the school district probably sucks.
I'm in upstate NY (finishing up law school, no desire to be a lawyer) and would really love to attend NYU if I'm fortunate enough to get in, but I also need to be realistic and if this is not going to be a positive move for my son, I won't do it. I figure he'll be 18 in 8 years and if I still have an itch to live in or near NYC, he'll hopefully be in college and I will have the freedom of living wherever I choose. At this stage, my priorities are a good school for him and a decent place (safe, affordable, clean) to live.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I live in Sunnyside Queens which is off of the 7 line. It's a bit longer to NYU than 30 min(around 40 minutes), but it is really affordable and safe. Good luck!
