Another career change - is nursing right for me?

Published

Hi allnurses!

First time poster here and would love some advice, especially from people who have changed careers to nursing.

My background: undergrad from a top school (but embarrassingly low gpa) in business, turned graphic designer in silicon valley, and now considering another career change into nursing. I'm female, 31 years old.

I'm considering nursing because I have friends who are nurses, and they seem to love their jobs. Not that its an easy job for them, but aspects of nursing that I like:

- Being active, not staring at a computer 9-12hours/day (which I do...)

- Being able to interact with people

- Being able to directly help people

- Assuming you are able to land a decent job, relatively stable job prospects and salary (in california)

Basically, I've started becoming jaded with my career choice. I worked my way up to become a designer in silicon valley, have a decent job and salary, but I don't think the job prospects for a graphic designer is great when you get older. That, and the whole not interacting with people, sitting in front of a desk all day, and pushing pixels for a living... is slowly starting to suck my soul dry...

I know nursing isn't all rainbows and sunshine, but I was wondering if people who have switched to careers in nursing are happy with their choices so far?

Thank you :)
