Dear Colleague,
Proper utilization of an Electronic Medical Records System (EMR) is essential to the success of health organizations ability to improve quality, safety, and patient/staff satisfaction. Although most health organizations recognize the importance of utilizing an EMR system, research shows that adoption for Clinicians is slow in U.S. health systems.
Most studies focusing on adoption and utilization of an EMR system have focused on direct care providers including Nurses and Physicians. However, we've learned that the implications to underuse by Nurse Leaders are critical as well. Implications to underuse by the Nurse Leader can affect patient safety, quality of care, meeting regulatory requirements, organizational & unit based leadership decisions, and Return on Investment (ROI).
I am asking you to complete a 16-question research survey entitled "Examining Barriers Related to Utilization of an Electronic Medical Records System (EMR) by Nurse Leaders ". The survey can be completed in 15 minutes or less. All responses to the survey are anonymous and will be reported only as group data. You may access the anonymous survey at the following link:

This research is part of my capstone project in the Doctorate of Nursing Practice program at Old Dominion University. Your input may greatly increase the ability to innovate EMR systems in a way that makes them more usable by Nurse Leaders.
