We are redoing our policy and procedures in our hospital. What are your facility's protocol for foley catheter care and how is your facility proving that pt's coming into the hospital for one diagnosis do not have a UTI?

A UACI is pretty much standard with routine blood work in the ED, particularly for anyone over 50, debilitated, or who has fever or abdominal pain. That way we know up front if they came in with a UTI.
I don't have our policy in front of us, but I know we are required to do cath care BID et prn, monitor for infection (VS q 8 hr, CBC QDay or QOD, I don't remember off the top of my head), and we are to advocate for the removal of the foley asap if the pt's other health conditions allow.
