Anesthesia Techs

What do Anesthesia techs do? Are these the folks who act as runners in the OR (like, getting equipment when the anesethetist can't leave the room? Is there more to it than that?

I would be more difficult to do my job without one.

whey do act as gofer but they also set up my room between cases which cuts down our turn over time dramaticaly.

they also set up art lines and central lines. pretty much anything an anethsetist needs help with.

I know at another institution they get the patien in the room, start art lines put the pateint on monitors and then call the CRNA to come and induce.

they are a great help and I am quite spoiled I hear by ours.

kudos to the techs.

Did I read that right? Starting a-lines? What kind of training do these folks have

Anesthesia techs at my hospital basically just manage different equipment, set up A-lines (certainly not put them in, though), clean the machine after use, stock anesthesia carts, and so forth. Very helpful to anesthesia and for the smooth operation of the OR--not to put them down at all. Just surprised that the scope of practice for anesthesia techs varies so much!

There's actually another thread on this board regarding this topic, it's only a few down and explains it pretty well. Anyway, I love our techs, we spend a day in the workroom with them during school learning where stuff is and how to change over stuff, etc, they are extremely helpful. Anesthesia techs and CRNAs get along very well.

When I was an anesthesia tech I would primarily wipe down the machines after cases, change out the circuits, and restock the carts. Like you said we would also take supplies to the CRNAs when they needed something. The people that I worked with were great, that job was a blast!
