Am I on The Right Track (CRNA)

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hello, My name is Tiffany, and I am an aspiring CRNA. I have been frequenting this forum for quite sometime, and have found most all of my questions pertaining to my future and preparations for it have been addressed and answered here.

I guess maybe I am looking for a more direct reassurance as to the path I am taking, so that I can be sure to stay on the most optimal and beneficial one. So,....

I have finished all my general education courses toward my ADN at gulf coast community college, and have managed a 4.0. (yay) I expect to be accepted into the nursing program in the fall...I have been reading up on some suggestions on how to best get my foot in the door into an icu unit for my eventual critical care experience. I have decided to go to the local red cross and take the CNA class they offer and then the test to become CNA certified. After this, what would be the best course of action?

Will hospitals be willing to hire me into a critical care unit once cNA certified?

is CNA and PCA the same thing?

should I get a job anywhere that will hire me, (Nursing home, etc.), or apply immediately to hospitals?

I would like to work in the ICU as quickly as possible after I receive my ADN, then while I am working there, I plan on getting my BSN online through chamberlain. I live in panama city, so I hope to ultimately be accepted into the Gooding Institute. Has anyone attended this school, and does anyone have any advice or answers to any of my questions? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks and have a wonderful day!!:clown:

hi and welcom Tiffany. yes cna and pca or techs are all the same thing. different hosp use different termniology and ways to certify people for this job. getting a tech job in an icu would b a great way to get your foot in the door for being hired into the icu. u can also volunteer there and do your senior preceptorship there, if your school does these. ask if u can nurse intern over the summer, etc. we hire new grads where i am all the time, but i have no idea about ur area. all u can do is try! you have plenty of time, even if u have to work the floor or tele before transferring into the icu while u are getting ur bsn. u can do a search on this site for posts about the school u are looking into.

good luck

Thank you very much for your response:) Have a wonderful day
