Hi, I am attenting an alternate entry program in Texas. It is a second degree program for those with non nursing degrees. Per this program, u get ur rn licensure after the first year, then work 2 more years towards earning MSN program. So u dont actually get a degree when u finish the first year but eligible to take RN licensure exam. My question is that If i quit the program after getting my Rn licensure, what are the consequences? In my resume what kind of degree will i be able to put since i will not have a ADN/BSN/MSN? I will hv licensure but no degree?

This seems like a question you should ask the administration at your school. It sounds like you would have your RN license, but who would want to hire you if you don't have the degree to back it up?

Hi,
The school I've applied to (Marquette in Wisconsin,) has a similar program. After the first 15 months, RN license is granted and then MSN courses are taken. There is no degree granted after RN stage is complete, only when the entire program is complete. It probably wouldn't be a very good idea to start the program and not finish it because you would have your RN, but might face challenges with employment and further education if you decided to go back to school for a MSN at a later date without an actual degree. An employer in your state should be able to accept your RN license, especially if you're still in the MSN program, but if you were to drop out it may be harder. Our RN is supposed to hold up before the MSN is complete, but our school says that it is only guaranteed to hold up in Wisconsin and other states may not accept the license. You should definately check with your school in regards to the specifics of the license and regulations.
