All the negative press reports...what a downer..

Published

I know it is news, but isn't it depressing that the biggest headlines are the ones like the nurse most recently being accused of killing a patient. How tragic.

It is terrible that the major focus is errors and bad news about health care.

I see everyday folks who work and give %1000 to make sure patients are taken care of. Wish we could see more of that- I mean how in the world are we going to help this nursing shortage with such negative PR by the media.

Hi lisagh. I would not get terribly upset at the press doing their job in this matter. I would possibly be disturbed with the nurse if the allegations are true. I would be particularly disturbed at how the facility the nurse worked for was handling this case.

As far as the media is concerned, negative press is commonly done on nurses and physicians as well as other groups. It makes for great ratings and sales. What we nurses need to do is be proactive on behalf of our patients/clients and ourselves in large numbers, smaller groups, and/or individually. There are millions of us that are nurses, techs, or aides.
