Hi all,
My husband and I are both commisioning in the Air Force in May, my husband as a pilot canidate and me as a nurse. It appears that I will be stationed at Lackland and he at Laughlin AFB. I am trying to figure out what the deployment cycle at Lackland is right now for nurses. I am trying to avoid a deployment as much as possible right now as my husband will be going through pilot training and will need my support. Does anybody know what the deployment outlook is like for a new nurse at Lackland? Is their any way to avoid it somewhat? Also, for anyone familiar with the area, is it conceavible to live between Lackland and Laughlin AFB so taht my husband and I could live together? Thank you so much for any input you can give me. My husband and I thank you!

My best advice is to call or email your future supervisor.
Lackland is high/highest deployment envirnoment for nursing.
As a new nurse it will probably be at least 6-12 months after NTP before you are eligible to deploy.
It is unrealistic to live more than 1hr away from base (there is probably someone there that does though). I highly doubt they will let your husband live that far away though.
Per the information that you have put on here you do not have a compelling case not to deploy, but again that is up to your new command. It doesn't matter what I tell you or anyone else, but I will caution you to breech the subject very carefully with your new supervisors/CC.

I know a couple who is in your exact same shoes except they commissioned last May. I can hook ya'll up if you still have questions.
I am from SW Texas and agree that it would be pretty impossible for you to live together. He will need to be in town and you will not want to drive hundreds of miles to work everyday. My husband is going through pilot training and I only see him an hour or two a day on the weekdays. Weekends are better - we can spend all of Friday night and part of Saturday together. Otherwise he is studying. He is going to be so busy during the week he will hardly miss you except when it's time to make dinner/do laundry/do the dishes. Also, you probably already know that he will be on casual for a while so you guys can spend lots of time together on the weekends before he starts UPT.
Where are you going for NTP?
Also, have you spoken with someone official about the Join Spouse program? There are a lot of rumors others try to tell you and its best to get the real dirt now.
