AF Nursing Question

So, just a question for the AF nurses out there: If I was not picked the first time my application was submitted, how likely am I to get chosen the second if nothing of major significance has changed in the submissions besides the format of a document?

Also, has anyone been hearing how the budget cuts that are coming down from the Executive Branch are affecting the recruiting? Are they making due with fewer nurses, are the health care areas being affected at all? I cannot imagine that they are not, but I have not been seeing anything posted and wondered from those who were in if you could say how you guys were being affected.

    hello, i messaged you on an older thread but was worried you wouldn't see it so i copied and pasted here (don't have the ability for pm yet)!i am about a year and a half from graduating with my bsn and have been debating between the air force and the navy nurse corps. i started with the nurse candidate program application process with my medical recruiter about two weeks ago and i have been getting a lot of it done fairly quickly. however, after learning about the air force programs as well as navy programs for current rns i'm starting to think it might not be worth it to do ncp since the process will take some time which means my stipend for student loans will not be maximized yet i will still be giving the same amount of active duty years (4-5). so my question is, from your experiences as an air force nurse, do the air force and navy take new grads with no prior experience? and if so what are the steps i should take to maximize my chances of receiving a commission? thank you for your time and i hope to hear from you soon!

    yes, the af takes a certain quota of new nurse every year. doing the ncp would give you guaranteed slot in the af nurse corps after graduation. right now there are a lot more applicants than slots for the nurse corps. the nurse corps looks at grades, references, extracurricular activities, etc. when looking at applicants.

    Yammer~ where are you stationed and what department? I keep hearing about budget cuts and can not believe that the medical side of any military branch will not be affected. There is just no way.
