AF assignment suggestions?

Published

The recruiter says that as long as there is an available slot, that I can pick my 1st assignment. It is written in my contract.

Keeping in mind that I will go in with an ICU identifier, where do you guys suggest/not suggest for assignments?

I live here in San Antonio, so of course Wilford Hall is at my back door, and I already spent 4 years there. But I have no family here, so am not tied down to any 1 place. My family is in Ohio, and of course Wright-Patt is there, but I am in no hurry to get back. After all, in 1999 I enlisted so that I could get away from that town!!

No kids, no husband, if that helps in your suggestion!!

Specializes in Anesthesia.

What are you future plans? There are several great bases to go to and there are several bases to go to that will help further certain career expectations.

Wilford Hall is probably the best base to go to if you want to get into CRNA school.

Eglin AFB has a small ICU, but you can't beat the Flordia atomsophere.

Landstuhl is great place to go as permanent party from what I have been told.

I would absolutely not recommend Keesler for about another year or Travis AFB at all.

Why do you suggest Wilford Hall for CRNA school? Do they pick more from WH? What about the whole thing with downsizing WH, and not accepting anymore civilian traumas? Do you think that will play a part in how big their ICU will be? If it is fairly small now, wont it get even smaller when they shut the traumas out of the ER?

Wilford Hall is still the biggest AF hospital hands down. All the AF hospitals are downsizing.

In general Wilford Hall usually always has the most canidates picked up for CRNA school, but I will say this class I am in is very ecletic. We have people from all over including bases w/o hospitals at all.
