Advice/tips for the aspiring CRNA

Hi everyone,

I am enthusiastically pursuing and awaiting a career as a CRNA. Albeit, I have a long ways to go but none the less enthusiastic. I am currently a junior at the local University, and work as a CNA at a local long term care facility. I am a Bio major/Chem minor. I have a 3.7 GPA, with a 3.9 science GPA and am involved in a fair share of extracurricular activities. After, I graduate I intend to complete a one year accelerated BSN program, at Creighton University. After, that I plan on working towards my critical care experience. This is where the questions begin.....

1. Approx. how long will it take to work towards, working in a critical care unit?

I imagine, 'they' just don't throw new grads on a critical care floor, even if they did I'm not sure I would feel comfortable with that.

2. I am very worried about not being accepted into a CRNA program, any tips or advice? Is my GPA high enough? Should, I work harder and bring it up?

3. I've noticed that many CRNA programs require the GRE. Is there anything I can do now, that will help prepare for it or assure a decent score?

4. Would volunteer work give me an edge? Should I wait, until I am at least an RN to shadow a CRNA around?

5. What type of questions are asked in the initial interview?

6. Does anyone have any clue as to what the actual statistics are for accepted students into the program? As far as GPA/gender/experience goes....

Okay...hopefully, someone will be kind enough to reply and help give me an idea of what needs to be done.
