I'm going into my 4th/final year at UC Davis for my psychology degree. I decided to pursue a career in nursing a year-ish ago, but instead of transferring to a CSU I thought it would be easier to get a BS at UCD (while doing nursing pre-reqs) and do the ABSN program at Samuel Merritt or go to a CC for an ADN. I'm pretty sure the ABSN route is out of the picture now because my GPA is only 2.76 and they want at least a 3.0 Don't even mention ELMSN at UCSF...Do I have any other options besides CC? How would it work if I went to a state school just for a BSN if I already have a BS from UCD?
I'd like to stay in the Bay Area. Most CCs admit based on a lottery, so I figure I'd apply to every nursing program in the area to increase my chances of getting in. I've finished most of my nursing pre-reqs according to the College of San Mateo's nursing pre req articulation grid, but a lot of those classes aren't listed at substitutes at other CCs so what do I do about that? Can I petition or should I take additional classes at a CC that can be used as substitutes?
I am aware that UCD is starting up some nursing programs, but they currently don't have a date set for when their BSN program will begin.
One more thing: should I also apply to CCs that use a waiting list? I'm from Santa Cruz and the CC here (Cabrillo) has a waiting list 2-3 years long I don't want to wait that long, but it is also possible that I won't get picked for 2-3 years for the lottery schools *knocks on wood* What would I do while I wait if I've already finished my pre reqs?
Any input is MUCH appreciated...I'm so lost -- I wish I had a time machine...Would've gone to a CSU instead...
