Advice on path to take

I have found an LPN program that will be able to take me immediately in the fall. Is it worth it to go there and get my LPN first and work as an LPN while I'm on a wait list for an LPN->RN program, or should i just finish my RN prereqs and get on a wait list for an RN program? I'm worried about what to do/where to work while I'm waiting for RN school, but the LPN program is 5 hours away from my significant other who is tied into a job for the indefinite future. What do you all think?

Hmmm... tough choice. I have a friend who has been an RN for a while. I asked her that same question - should I go ahead and become an LVN, then go back later and become an RN? Her advice was to stick it out and become an RN. Evidently Rns have more fun. LOL!

Also - from what I have heard - CNAs and LVNs make pretty close to the same salary. And CNA training is a lot shorter than LVN training. Have you looked into becoming a CNA while waiting on the RN waiting list? Just a thought.

I thought of doing the same thing a couple of years ago. My finanical aid advisor talked me out of it. She explained that if I got my LVN I would have to retake A&P1 and 2 and micro to get my RN as they would expire more than likely before the time limit.

Hmmmm. I'm going the LPN route myself because I have to pay out of pocket. I'm going to go back for my RN once, I'm employed by a hospital or LTC and ummmm, CNA's and LPN's do not make the same amt of money here in Illinois. Uhn, Uhn, not at all.

I am a lot like the other students in their response. I thought about an LPN Program, but was told that I should stick it out and go after the BSN right away. You want to try and bang out all your schooling at one time. Getting your LPN is a great start, but it might be hard for you to go back to school especially if you are working. I recommend diving in head first, finishing up your pre-requisites and applying to as many schools as you can!
