advice for a newbie

Published

Okay, here is who I am. in 1990 I went to school for a combined CNA/Medical Office assistant training program, I completed all the classroom work, during the clinical, I withdrew because I did not have my own transportation to the location, and it bothered me to bum rides to and from both s hool, and the nursing home. bad choice, but its what I done. I wrongly got it in my head that every school had a limited number of slots available for enrollment and there was a huge competition to get those few places. (I felt it was out of my reach, and gave up) It can be difficult, I know, but now I know if you are determined, you will get into nursing school. I also know getting in is one thing, completing it is another. I know I'm in for a wild rollercoaster ride. Good things don't come easy.

Okay, I passed my entrance HESI, with a decent score. (so pleased about this) I begin nursing school in a few months, for LPN ( hope to take it to BSN later) Okay, I am fifty years old. I suffered a stroke some years back, at a young age, that effected my left side. I know I can safely deal with patients, I have worked in home mealth care as a private sitter, so I have assisted the elderly getting to and from the bathroom, getting in and out of bed, managing their meds, doing everything for them. I would not attempt this if I felt I could not physically hold up.

Now, with that said, seeing how Im fifty and off to a late start: Can you give me any advice for my career path, and landing that first job. I love working with the elderly, and have an exceptional knack for dealing with people, even difficult people, I have a way with them, that I know is my greatest strength. I am also interested in focusing on wound care. . . ??

the schooling in 1990 has no real bearing on what Im doing today, but because of it, I have a good idea of what Im getting into. Have also dated an RN. (Im a guy)
